Dinosaurs
This project grew out of a few things: learning that dinosaurs were first discovered in the mid-19th century and the fact that we are inundated with representations of dinosaurs despite our not knowing with certainty what they actually looked like. Paleontologists are able to draw some conclusions about a dinosaur’s size and how it moved based on its skeleton and how joints fit together, but since soft tissue doesn’t survive very well underground, coloring is an educated guess, based on the environment the dinosaur lived in. The number and variety of dinosaur figures created over the years, illustrates our fascination with these creatures, and how our knowledge of them has changed over time.
