Masks

It was probably thirty years ago that I bought a Vacuform Halloween mask (I later learned it was a Barbie Bride mask from the early 80s) at a thrift store. It was colorful and cartoony, and I thought it would be interesting to do a series of people wearing masks like this. Every Halloween I would look for Vacuform masks. I found a few but most masks in the costume aisles were the latex masks which I did not think would work very well. I never found enough of the masks I was looking for, and then one day it occurred to me that I might find the old masks on eBay. I checked, realized I should have thought about that sooner, and started collecting masks. I worked with children—no shortage of imagination there--and adults. I still have the masks, and I’ve been planning to start work on the series once again.
