Mardi Gras World
Mardi Gras World, the New Orleans workshop and attraction where many of the floats are made for Mardi Gras and other parades, was a discovery my wife and children made while exploring the city while I was attending a conference. When I met up with them that afternoon, my wife said, “We went to a place we think you’d like today.” I wasn’t wholly convinced—people often have, with varying degrees of success, suggested things I might be interested in photographing—but I didn’t have to get too far into the building to know this was a winner. I’ve never passed up a chance to go back there, even though Mardi Gras World moved after Katrina and their new digs, while obviously better suited to their work, are not as well-suited to the picture taking I do.
